Scorpio season, Samhain and the thinning veil
The most witchy time of the year — Scorpio season, Mercury retrograde, the Hunter's Moon and Samhain all arrive together.
On 23 October the Sun enters Scorpio: the sign of depth, transformation, secrets and rebirth. It's the witchiest season of the year — and 2026 packs a lot into it.
Key dates
- 24 October — Mercury stations retrograde in Scorpio (until 13 November). Communication slows; old truths surface. Reflect before you react.
- 25 October — Venus (still retrograde) moves back into Libra.
- 26 October — Full Moon in Taurus, the Hunter's Moon. A grounding moon to give thanks for what you've gathered this year.
- 31 October — Samhain. The veil between worlds is said to be at its thinnest. Honour your ancestors and let go of what this year has asked you to release.
- 9 November — New Moon in Scorpio. Plant intentions about deep change.
- 13 November — Mercury turns direct; 14 November — Venus turns direct. The fog begins to lift.
A Samhain ritual
Light a single candle after dark. Say the names of those you want to remember, and share one thing each of them taught you. Then write down one habit you're ready to leave behind in this year, and (safely) burn or bury the paper.
